samuel_dalembertWith the 2009 NBA Draft less then a week away, the news on the 76ers front is a little slow today.

So we’ll just throw a couple items out that you may or may not have read or heard about.

In case you have not heard by now, Andre Iguodala has some baby’s mama drama on his hands.

We’re also catching rumors of a trade between the Bobcats and the 76ers.

CAN A GUY NAMED CHASE SAVE THE 76ERS TOO?

chase1As we mentioned in our “Expert’s Predictions” post, in addition to VCU’s Eric Maynor a popular “expert”  prediction for the 76ers to select with the #17 pick in the 2009 NBA Draft is former Arizona small forward / shooting guard Chase Budinger. The 6-7 wing player owns a 40-inch vertical and is a hell of an athlete (He also played volleyball at Zona). Budinger is also widely considered one of the best shooters in this year’s Draft.

Draftexpress.com had this to say about Budinger…

DRAFT 2009: EXPERT PREDICTIONS

maynorWe are a little over a week away from the 2009 NBA Draft and as we all know, the 76ers hold the 17th pick this year. The consensus is that Oklahoma’s Blake Griffin will go #1 to the Los Angeles Clippers. That seems to be a no-brainer – mortal lock. However, slide down the Draft board to the Sixers and there’s seems to be very little agreement on what Ed Stefanski will do at number seventeen.

We searched the world wide web and gathered up a host of “expert” opinions on what to expect from the Sixers on Draft Night 2009. While we did find a lead candidate, we think you’ll surprised at the lack of agreement among the “experts” as well as a few of the names being put out there as a possible pick by Philadunkia’s home team.

76ers Jordan BasketballThe weekend the New Jersey Nets are hosting a three day, 30+ player pre-draft workout at their practice facility in East Rutherford, NJ. The workouts up the New Jersey Turnpike will be “multi-team workouts” as they are called in NBA circles. This means that player personnel staffs from several NBA teams will be in attendance.

Sources have told Philadunkia that Ed Stefanski and the 76ers front office will in East Rutherford this weekend to observe the workouts. There will be a total of six sessions, two each on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The schedule and the list of players participating after the jump:

NBA Draft 76ers BasketballThis Afternoon Ed Stefanski took some time off to answer some questions from fans as well as the media on Sixers.com. I was there to cue in on some issues as well as both Depressedfan and reclinergm. Most of the questions asked were adequate, yet one towards the end asking Ed who his favorite player was could have been left out. Here is the transcription.

Ed Stefanski:  Welcome everybody – let’s get started!

[Comment From Steve]
Do you view Andre Iguodala as the starting sg next season? If not does that mean Thaddeus will be the 6th man?

77040751RB006_VENICETRIPApparently in addition to his ability to drain the 3-ball at an alarming rate, the 76ers newest acquisition Jason Kapono also has some skills with the ladies. As evidence of said skills, Philadunkia nation we’d like to introduce to you Mrs. Ashley Kapono. Please give her a warm City of Brotherly Love welcome.

From what we could find out it seems Kapono and Ashley (then Ashley Cline) met in the summer of 2000 and the couple dated while Kapono was at UCLA. They were eventually wed in August of 2004.

Here are just a couple of tidbits and some pics from the Ashley (Cline) Kapono file…

D053653165.JPGYesterday we mentioned that the 76ers were scheduled to bring in LSU’s Marcus Thornton on Thursday as one of their last remaining scheduled NBA Draft prospect workouts for 2009. Well the Sixers have added four players to Thursday’s list so that Thornton has some cats to play against, pass the ball to and run drills with in front of Stefanski and the Sixers brass. Included among the additions are two local products, Temple’s Dionte Christmas and UNC shooting guard Wayne Ellington (Episcopal Academy).

STEFANSKI HITS FROM DOWNTOWN

kaponoisoStefanski, Stefanski he’s our man if he can’t do it then no one can.

Since Ed Stefanski took over as GM of the Sixers, it seems as if the Sixers are inching closer and closer to greatness. Yesterday, Stefanski once again made a brilliant move.

Stefanski shipped fan favorite Reggie Evans to the Raptors for Jason Kapono, one of the most prolific three point shooters in the game. Just how prolific you ask? How about having a career three point shooting percentage of 45.4 percent, or hitting 98 three’s last season while only playing 23 minutes per game. You can even look back to just three seasons ago when Kapono was with the Miami Heat which was statistically his best year. That season Kapono shot 51.4 percent from three while netting 108 from long range. The guy can flat out shoot which is something the Sixers haven’t seen since the departure of Kyle Korver.

SIXERS GET KAPONO

kapono2In an effort to bolster the 76ers miserable 3-point shooting abilities, Ed Stefanski  has acquired forward Jason Kapono from the Toronto Raptors in exchange for forward Reggie Evans.

We are very excited to add one of the league’s most prolific three-point shooters in Jason Kapono,” Stefanski said. “We feel that this move addresses our goal of improving our shooting from the perimeter…I want to thank Reggie Evans for his contributions to the team and we wish him only the best.”

Last season, Kapono appeared in all but one game for the Raptors, averaging 7.2 points, 2.0 rebounds and a career-high 1.3 assists while shooting 43.2% from the floor, 42.8% from 3-point range and 81.0% from the foul line.  He ranked 12th in the NBA in 3-point percentage.

UPCOMING DRAFT PROSPECT WORKOUTS

Posted by: Philadunkia
06/09/09 2:51 pm EST

LSU Kentucky BasketballWith roughly two weeks left before the 2009 NBA Draft, Ed Stefanski and the rest of the 76ers Player Personnel Department still have a few Draft prospect workouts left to conduct. As it stands right now, the Sixers are scheduled to put shooting guard Marcus Thornton through the paces on June 11th and another shooting guard Jermaine Taylor will audition on June 14th. Obviously everyone in the world knows the Sixers are in desperate need of a legit shooting guard, so it’s a good sign that they seem to be ready to address the problem.
