While it might only be the Orlando Pro Summer League championship the Sixers have continued to showcase their young talent and win all week long.
The Sixers played in the OPSL championship game this afternoon against another strong contender down here, the Memphis Grizzlies. Coming into this game the Sixers had won three straight games, only losing too the Orlando Magic the first game they played this week.
The Sixers won 91-75 in a crushing victory over Memphis. Hollis Thompson posted 21 points; Casper Ware scored 19 and handed out 7 dimes. St. Joe’s product Ronald Roberts racked up a double-doubel — 12 & 11. Although the Sixers only walked away with an OPSL championship T-shirt, coach Pierce and Philadunkia nation should be excited about the young talent that this franchise has.
The Sixers have been on a roll in this week, finishing with a record of 4-1 for the week. The confidence of these young professional players has been apparent throughout these games. Each game the team seems like it gains more and more confidence. Team chemistry is also being seen at this tournament, as the guys tend to joke and laugh with each other leaving the locker room and before post game interviews.
A lot can be taken away from the team as a whole. The experience here at the OPSL has shown the coaching staff a glimpse of the players that have a real chance at contributing to this team and gaining a roster spot. All in all it may not be the NBA championship but winning “it all” down here in Orlando is certainly a step in the right direction.
On Saturday I’ll have a player review of the performances I saw from the Sixers’ roster this week.
