On Thursday — one day before the 2011-12 season officially opens — 76ers Head Coach Doug Collins was a call-in guest for “The Mike Missanelli Show” on 97.5 “The Fanatic”. Collins was very chipper and seemed to be extremely confident that the 7-6 are going to have a very good year.
“Mikey Miss” and Collins discussed a variety of topics including the Sixers recent success, Thaddeus Young, Evan Turner’s jumper, using the amnesty clause on Brand’s contract and where the Sixers stand in the East.
We didn’t agree with everything Collins had to say, but we also couldn’t believe how straight forward Collins was in the interview.
We transcribed one of our favorite clips and provide you with a link to the full interview with Collins after the jump.
Mikey Miss: (On Evan Turner) Have you heard or seen anything that leads you to believe he will be a better shooter this year?
Coach Collins: Herb (Shooting guru Herb Magee.) did a great job and Evan he was excited about his time with Herb. Herb said to Rod Thorn the other when Evan shoots the ball all of his misses are on line. I know that sounds like a little thing but that’s important. That’d be like if you were on the green putting and you might be missing short and you might be missing long, but you’re online with everything you are doing. You’re not missing right. You’re not missing left — all over the board. Evna feels very good about that. I’m very good friends with Thad Matta the coach at Ohio State… he said ‘I watched Evan work out and he’s shooting the ball great’. So those are a couple of things I can go on right now.
