Philadelphia 76ers 76 FinalRecap | Box Score 97 Washington Wizards
Elton Brand, PF 29 MIN | 3-6 FG | 2-2 FT | 9 REB | 1 AST | 8 PTS | -8

At first blush, he looks like he contributed. At second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth blushes–not so much.  When he was matched up against Nene, which he was for much of the game, he was outplayed.  Badly.

Andre Iguodala, SF 33 MIN | 3-9 FG | 0-1 FT | 3 REB | 3 AST | 7 PTS | -12

Sure your left patella tendon is okay Andre?  Positive?  Good, I’m glad you’re well.  Do us all a favor, lay off the behind the back passes.  Style points don’t actually count on the scoreboard.

Spencer Hawes, C 18 MIN | 3-10 FG | 0-0 FT | 7 REB | 3 AST | 6 PTS | -9

Six points on 10 shots is not helpful production from a center.  Oh, and that’s what Spencer Hawes had.

Evan Turner, SG 29 MIN | 5-7 FG | 1-2 FT | 2 REB | 3 AST | 11 PTS | -7

What happened to the torrid rebounding pace?  And the general…I don’t know, confident play?

Jrue Holiday, PG 30 MIN | 2-8 FG | 0-2 FT | 1 REB | 4 AST | 4 PTS | -15

This was Jrue’s worst night of the season.

Tony Battie, C 10 MIN | 2-4 FG | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 1 AST | 4 PTS | +8

Blech.

Lou Williams, PG 20 MIN | 5-11 FG | 2-2 FT | 2 REB | 1 AST | 14 PTS | -1

Lou and Thad were both bright spots in the dreadful performance.  Comparative bright spots.

Sam Young, SF 9 MIN | 0-4 FG | 2-2 FT | 3 REB | 0 AST | 2 PTS | -12

He looked a lot like a player a team would be willing to trade for cap relief tonight.

Thaddeus Young, F 24 MIN | 4-10 FG | 6-6 FT | 5 REB | 0 AST | 14 PTS | -11

The one 76er who consistently attacked the rim.  Alright, occasionally attacked it.

Jodie Meeks, G 25 MIN | 1-8 FG | 0-0 FT | 3 REB | 3 AST | 2 PTS | -13

After the best game of his career, what an encore.  It’s like if Francis Ford Coppola followed up Godfather with Hudson Hawk.

Lavoy Allen, PF 4 MIN | 1-1 FG | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 0 AST | 2 PTS | -6

Whatever.

Nikola Vucevic, C 9 MIN | 1-4 FG | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 0 AST | 2 PTS | -19

Whatever.

FO’ with the FOES: WASHINGTON WIZARDS

Gilbert_Arenas_StreetballThis edition of “Fo’ with the Foes” — Philadunkia’s advanced scouting series which with the help of an accomplished journalist from around the NBA beat or blog world, previews upcoming 76ers opponents — features tonight’s opponent and Eddie Jordan’s former team, the Washington Wizards.  This trip to the District of Columbia is the second game of a three game road trip for the Sixers.

We feel like we’re writing this a lot lately, but the Wizards much like the 76ers have struggled mightily here at the start of the 2009-10 season and a lot of ills that have plagued the Sixers are hurting the Wizards efforts early on this year.  The Wiz struggles have mostly been associated with poor shooting (43% from the field), adjustments to a new coach and new roles for key players.  Sound familiar?

This is going to be a tough game for the Sixers to win.  Yes the Wizards are a mess and there is some infighting going on in the locker room, but Washington is athletic, potentially they can score from outside, the team certainly has a great set of bigs (Haywood & AJ) to compliment their perimeter shooting once that gets going and they also have a go to player for clutch moments in Gilbert Arenas.  Plus they are familiar with Eddie Jordan’s Princeton offense.  If you can even call what the Sixers have been running in the half-court offense a form of the Princeton offense.  It’s more like the adopted kid brother that nobody likes to Pete Carrill’s version of this “read-and-react” offensive scheme.  So the Wizards present a load of problems for the defensively challenged Sixers.  Still the Sixers showed signs of turning the corner against Cleveland and dare we hope possibly getting this season back on track.  So, there is a glimmer of hope that the Sixers can steal one down in the nation’s capital tonight

For a little more insight into the Wizards team the Sixers face tonight, we turn to our man Kyle Weidie from the Wiz faithful blog  truthaboutit.net .

GETTING THE G.O.A.T.

michael-jordanbwThere is no doubt in our minds that Michael Jordan is the G.O.A.T. and we genuflect out of respect for his basketball skills and accomplishments at both the NCAA and NBA levels. Outside of former Philadelphia Warrior legend and City of Brotherly Love native Wilt Chamberlain and possibly Bill Russell, perhaps no individual is more deserving of induction into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame then Michael. Hoops web sites all over the world will be paying homage to #23 today and rightly so.

However, Philadunkia is a blog dedicated to the Philadelphia 76ers – the good and the bad; on and off the court. So even though we realize that MJ absolutely owned our home team during his playing days – from the 56 he dropped on Barkley back in 1987 to the “Stackhouse Game” to the 30 spot he hung on Iverson as a Wizard – we still felt that since this is a 76er loyal site, we should “flip the script” as they say and run down a list of the best moments in 76ers history that occurred at the expense of Air Jordan and his teammates.
